Organics Foods: The Facts Revealed By A Recent Study. | ArticlesBase.com

A world-wide awareness of health issues have resulted in more and more people deciding to go organic especially in terms of the food choices they make when they go grocery shopping for their families. For most people this move is the result of a belief that organic food contributes more to one's health because of increased nutrients. There are many who have also made the switch because of the better taste they believe organic foods have.

Aided by this move and perception, the organic industry last year grew by a whopping 18% in the US alone. Coming on the heels of these 'positive' developments for the organic industry is the latest study conducted in the UK. This study, commissioned by UK's FSA (Food Standard Agency) was led by Dr. Alan Dangour, (who is a Public Health Nutritionist) and a team of experts from the well-known London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

An Overview of Detox Diets

If you're feeling sluggish, or you think you're always full and the food has settled in your stomach, undigested. If you think you're fat and need to lose weight. And if you think that you've ingested more than the allowed preservatives and additives into your body and your liver's starting to show symptoms of abuse, then it's time for you to go on a Detox program.

Detox or detoxification is the process of neutralizing or eliminating toxins from the body. Detox plans may be in different forms and ways - from regular exercise to body scrubs and spa massages, to yoga and meditation. But the simplest and the most common perhaps is to go on a detox diet.

The Breakdown Of The Organic Food Delivery System

Organic food delivery is difficult to keep in check. With the delivery of fresh organic food, new problems are cropping up with farmers and retail stores. The demand for fresh organic food continues to rise and with it the speciality market section of the local grocery stores are growing larger. The farmers are experiencing difficultly getting items to stores on time and labor shortages in the organic food market are affecting both the retail market and the farmers bottom line.

Organic food companies are becoming a permanent fixture on the retail market. The different companies selling organic food include nationwide chains, internet stores, and local farmers markets. With local markets, the organic food delivery system breakdown is not as prevalent. The internet stores most often come directly from a farm, so many of them are not experiencing as much of an impact. However, the retail stores that are out in the market are seeing a decrease in sales.

Manic Organic - With Big Brands Cashing In On The Organic Name, What Does Organic Really Mean?

I have written so many times about organic food, and am increasingly committed to living an ‘organic lifestyle’ where possible. But what exactly do I mean by that? To me it is about caring for my families’ health, and the families of the people who make the food, lessening my environmental impact, protecting my kids from chemical residues in food, and around the home and garden and taking responsibility for the lives of the animals which help produce our food. I also like to support the local economy, and am passionate about quality ingredients. I believe that big supermarket culture has altered our expectations about food; we want it cheap, fast, highly flavoured, squeaky clean, flawless, oh and even cheaper! The reality of good food and organic produce is that it isn’t always all of those things, but it can have so much more to offer. Some organic stuff to consider:

There Are Antibiotics In Your Vegetables

While the University of Minnesota researchers have already stated that livestock have a lot of harmful antibiotics in them, they are now saying that this is also true of vegetables as well. This study can be found in the Journal of Environmental Quality. It shows that food crops can readily accumulate antibiotics from the soil that has been spread with cattle manure.

These findings were based on a greenhouse study that was done. It involved 3 different food crops. These included corn, lettuce and potatoes. They found that those plants that were grown in soil that was modified with liquid hog manure, which contains the common veterinary antibiotic sulfamethazine, actually absorbed this antibiotic. It could be found in the plants’ leaves. There were also concentrations in the plants’ tissue. This concentration actually increased as the amount of antibiotic present in the manure increased. It was also diffused into potato tubers. As such, it is believed that other root crops, which include such things as carrots and radishes, are also particularly vulnerable to antibiotic contamination.
